Robert “Bob” Lindfield was born in the central NSW town of Orange. He went to the local Christian Brothers school and learned his rugby league there. Bob first came to notice in 1922 when playing for Orange Old Boys. He was selected for the Western Division representative team and then NSW Country that year. He also played for the Orange representative team against a visiting Maori team.
