Fred

Fred Yanz was the younger brother of Lou Yanz (Wests #211). Fred first came to prominence in 1919 when he was selected to play fullback for a combined Sydney junior rugby league team against a South Coast representative team.

The Yanz brothers were members of the Auburn A Grade Rugby League team in 1920. Fred Yanz was selected from there to play in the Western Districts President’s Cup team that year. He was preferred at fullback over Frank McMillan who played for North Parramatta at the time.

Fred Yanz’s son, Fred Yanz junior played with Wests from 1944 until 1948.
