John “Jack” Thompson was born at Paddington, NSW but grew up and played rugby league at Lidcombe in Sydney’s Western Suburbs. Jack was a Wests junior who played for the Lidcombe Club.
In those years Lidcombe produced some very good football players such as future Wests First Grade players, Thomas “Pony” Redmond and Jack Matterson.
