Richard “Dick” Davis was a junior rugby union player before he came across to Wests Rugby League Club in 1931.
A search of public records has not found any junior playing history for him. As a local product he could have played rugby union with the Western Suburbs Club. However he does not appear in their ranks in the lead up to his conversion to rugby league.
It is likely that Dick was playing with one of the Kentwell Cup rugby union teams in the Western Suburbs District, however team lists and results for this competition were rarely reported in the newspapers of the time.
