Les West played for the Marrickville rugby union team before the NSW v All Blacks game in 1907. This match was the catalyst for the formation of rugby league in 1908.
Those that played for NSW and Marrickville were banned from playing rugby union indefinitely. It proved difficult to identify all that participated in these games.
Les had little time for authority and kept on playing rugby union for another five seasons.
