Gavin

Wests Archive would like to thank Gavin Miller for generously contributing his time and information in the preparation of this profile.

Gavin Miller was born in his mother Nola’s home town of Inverell in northern NSW in 1960. His father Reg, a railway worker, was from the south west NSW town of Harden-Murrumburrah. Reg was a well-known local sportsman.

The Miller family settled in the railway town of Goulburn in the early 1960’s. It was here that Gavin was first exposed to rugby league as a four year old. The family home in Joshua St was a short distance to North Park where Gavin played with the North Goulburn rugby league team.

Gavin made his way rapidly through the junior ranks and would play First Grade as a sixteen year old under former Wests player, Jim Cody. The following year he was graded with Wests in Sydney which commenced a long First Class rugby league career.

He has achieved at the highest level both in Australia and England. When he retired from grade rugby league he returned to his home town of Goulburn. At Goulburn, Gavin maintained his interest in local rugby league and became involved in the hotel industry.
