Russ

Russ Johnstone was born in Penrith, NSW in 1944. He was educated at Penrith High School where he played University Shield rugby league.

He was a talented junior rugby league player and was ready for grade football. However, his local club, Penrith, had not yet been admitted into the Sydney premiership competition. He therefore found his way to the neighbouring Parramatta Club in 1964.
