Barry Boss grew up in the Fairfield district in Sydney’s western suburbs. The earliest recording is of him playing junior rugby league with the nearby Cabramatta club.

His football talent was no doubt influenced by his immediate family. His father, George Boss was a grade rugby league referee and linesman, first making an appearance in the early 1930’s.

Barry’s grandfather, George Boss senior was the very first rugby league referee in Australia. He refereed the match between NSW and Baskerville’s New Zealand team in 1907.

Before playing with Wests, Barry made his First Grade debut with Penrith. The video clip below captures him scoring a try for Penrith against Easts in round seventeen in 1968.
