Bill

William “Bill” Howes was born at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains but grew up at Bankstown in Sydney’s west.

Bill joined the Militia in 1925 at the age of fourteen and was posted to the 53rd Battalion (Belmore). At this time he was a railway employee, working at the Chullora Railway Workshops.

Bill played in the Canterbury Bankstown President’s Cup teams of 1930 and 1931 and he was graded and played with Wests in 1932. That year he played ten Reserve and two Third Grade games.
