Bill

The story of Bill Owens’ is drawn from an excellent interview by Tony Lewis of Pratten Park Magpies in 2014, and  from the Vale to Bill Owens in 2016.

Bill was a Wests junior who played with the Croydon Shamrocks and Haberfield CYO rugby league clubs. He won premierships with Croydon Shamrocks in 1950, 1951 and 1952. Bill proudly retained his Shamrocks premiership blazer which took pride of place in his study.

Bill was selected to play for Wests President’s Cup team in 1953 with good mate Bill Carson.

Wests were going through a lean time after its premiership win in 1952. However, the future was looking good with a group of talented young players emerging through the junior ranks.

In the Presidents Cup squad with Bill Owens and Bill Carson were future First Grade players, Barry Owen, Bill Burnett, Bob Tucker, Peter Wooden and Les Midson.
