Vince

Vince Cleary was born in the NSW central west town of Bathurst in 1907. His father William Cleary died in June 1916 at Bathurst as a result of complications from an appendix operation.

At William Cleary’s funeral, his cortege included prominent businessmen, Laurence, and Michael Mockler. The Mockler brothers in 1932, donated a silver cup to the Western Division Rugby League to be played for by Western Division district teams.

Vince was eight years old when his father died. He received a good education at St Stanislaus College, Bathurst, where he excelled in a number of subjects. St Stanislaus College was a strong rugby union school but also played rugby league in the local competition, and it was here that Vince learned his early football.
