Vic Williams was the son of a butcher. The family lived in the Sydney suburb of Ashbury and that is where Vic learned to play rugby league. He stood at six foot in height and played in the front row.
At age seventeen he joined the Navy, a year before the end of the second world war but was demobilised in 1946 as Navy operations wound down.
By 1949, Vic was graded with Wests and made his First Grade debut that year. Over a four year period Vic spent his time between Sydney and Tamworth. During this time he played rugby league with Wests and Tamworth. While at Tamworth he represented Northern Division.
