Terry Mullins grew up in the Sydney suburb of Yagoona. Terry was one of three famous siblings that went on to play First Grade rugby league. Older brother Bill had a long and successful career with Easts while younger brother, Russell was a crowd favourite at Wests. All of the Mullins boys were good athletes and were as comfortable on the athletics track as they were on a football field.
Terry was a Canterbury junior and played with the Bulldogs in the 1971 season. Canterbury won the 1971 Third Grade premiership and Terry Mullins was one of the stars of that famous win.
Terry went on to play First Grade with Wests before having a season with Gloucester and then eventually finding his way to the NSW north coast.
