Sydney “Sid” Palmer was first recorded playing rugby league with the Fairfield Club in the Southern Districts rugby league competition. He was selected as a member of the 1926 Southern Districts President’s Cup team.

By 1928 he had moved to the inner-city suburb of Glebe and was playing with the Leichhardt Juniors Club before being graded with the Glebe Rugby League Club in 1929. It was Glebe’s last year in the Sydney rugby league competition. While playing with the Glebe club he was recorded as H. Lever.
