Wests Archive would like to thank Russell Mullins for generously contributing his time and information in the preparation of this profile.
Russell Mullins grew up in the Sydney suburb of Yagoona and was educated at Yagoona Public School. He later attended Bankstown De La salle secondary school. He and his brothers, Bill and Terry were natural athletes and were involved in a number of sports in their school days.
While the brothers gravitated to rugby league they were also very good sprinters and short distance runners. During this interview Russell confirmed that he travelled to various athletic meets in his younger days. In his post playing days he maintained an interest in training athletes.
However as a youth Russell played soccer in the Bankstown district and represented the Hume Zone in south-west Sydney.
At age fifteen, Russell was recorded playing with the Bankstown Sports junior rugby league club. This sent him on a path to become one of the best and most exciting wingers in rugby league. Watch him in action by clicking the icon below.
