Ron

Wests Archive would like to thank Ron Giteau for generously contributing his time and information in the preparation of this profile.

Ron Giteau was born in Sydney, NSW and grew up at Westmead in the Parramatta district. He played junior rugby union with the Westmead and Northmead clubs before playing with the Dundas Valley U/14 team. From there he was convinced to have a go at playing rugby league with his team mate Steve McKenzie.

Ron and Steve McKenzie decided to sign up with the Homebush junior rugby league club in 1969.  They would then have a go at being selected in Wests S G Ball Cup team. It would have been almost impossible for the two Parramatta boys to have made their way to Homebush without support. Fortunately, Steve’s father regularly drove the boys from the Parramatta district to Homebush and back.
