Robert “Bob” Mclaughlin was born in the western Sydney suburb of Concord. He is the son of former Australian Welterweight boxing champion, Ron McLaughlin.

Bob grew up in the western suburbs district where he learned to play rugby league. He also followed in his father’s footsteps and developed his boxing skills to become one of the best amateur boxers in NSW.

Bob had a successful rugby league career but boxing would be a lifelong passion.
