Richard “Dick” Timbs is the second eldest son of Kevin and Sheila Timbs of Dapto, NSW. Dick Timbs played his early rugby league with the Dapto club in the Illawarra district south of Sydney. He followed his older brother, Kevin, to Sydney to play with Wests in 1970.
Another brother, Andy Timbs, was a General Manager of Wests Ashfield leagues club in the 2000’s.
His father, Kevin Timbs senior was also an accomplished rugby league player. He represented NSW Railways v Queensland Railways in 1938 and 1939.
Kevin Timbs senior trialled with Wests in 1940 but was given a clearance to play with Newtown. There is no record of him playing with Newtown and war soon intervened. Kevin was captured in the fall of Singapore in 1942 and was sent to a work camp in Japan for the duration of the war.
He was repatriated to Australia in late 1945 and played a number of First Grade games with South Sydney in 1946 before the effects of war took its toll and he retired.
Dick Timbs was a Policeman and by 1973 had transferred to the Riverina district in south west NSW. He remained in the greater south west district of NSW for the remainder of his life.
