Wests Archive would like to thank Peter Young for generously contributing his time and information in the preparation of this profile.
Peter Young grew up in the Sydney suburb of Granville. He was educated at Granville Patrician Brothers and Granville Boys’ High. At school he played rugby union but on the weekend he played with the Granville Diggers club. He was with the Granville club for about a decade.
Peter came to the attention of junior selectors in 1968 and was included in Wests S G Ball team. He played in Wests junior representative teams over a number of years. His road to grade rugby league was unusual as he played in NSW Country centres for two seasons.
When he returned to Sydney and was graded with Wests he made an immediate impact. After spending five seasons with Wests he moved to the NSW Central Coast and played with the Woy Woy club. Representative honours followed with selection in the divisional and NSW Country teams.
