Peter Lema’s father was of Ukrainian descent and his mother was from Bulgaria. Both arrived in Australia from post war Europe in the late 1940’s. His parents met in Australia and settled in the western suburbs at Granville.
Peter and his older brother Greg played rugby league for the local Granville Diggers club. Both then went on and played junior representative football for Wests.
The brothers were both graded in 1975. Greg played the one season with Wests while Peter played for six seasons and played more than one hundred and twenty games.
