Player #65 was recorded by his surname only therefore it is difficult to identify him. The names of Owen and Owens were both used in team lists however the most likely spelling is Owen.
This person played two First Grade games in the front row for Wests in 1910. It is likely that he played junior football at Ashfield and lived in that district. A person of that name played with Ashfield Juniors in 1911 alongside Wests players Alfred Chipperfield and William Weigand.
A search for men living at Ashfield that could have played for Wests found two possibilities. The first was Greville Stanley Owen born in 1888. Greville Owen was a postman.
The second was Thomas Alexander Owen who was a school teacher and an accomplished cricketer. He played First Grade for Wests in 1909 and Burwood Cricket Club in subsequent years.
Thomas Alexander Owen was noted for his slow bowling known as “Bosies”, but he would have been 29 years of age in 1910 and possibly too old to have made a First Grade debut. He had no evident rugby league playing history.
Until further information is found, it is not possible to accurately identify this player.
