Jack

The John “Jack” Thompson story has been written with the generous assistance of John Wiles who shared his thoughts and memories of Jack over the years.

Jack Thompson was from the suburb of Concord West. One of his mates during his youth was Ron “Red Dog” Watson. Ron was a future team mate at Wests, a member of the 1952 Premiership winning team, First Grade Coach, Life Member and a long time Committeeman.

Jack went to Homebush Boys High School where rugby union was the main winter sport. He naturally gravitated to playing rugby union in the Concord district during his school years. He also excelled at athletics and held numerous sprint records at the school and with Combined High Schools.

After leaving school, Jack maintained his interest in athletics and was a member of the Western Suburbs Athletic Club.
