Jeff Nielsen was contacted in April 2024 by the Wests Archive team and generously provided information about his time playing rugby league at both a junior and senior level.
Jeff was a Wests junior who played with the Ashfield Dragons Club in the early 1960’s. He had the unusual experience of travelling to Western Australia with the Ashfield B Grade team as a Ball Boy. Jeff was playing F Grade with Ashfield at the time.
He moved across to Enfield Federals in 1963 when the Ashfield Club folded. Jeff made his first representative appearance with the 1963 Western Suburbs Oatley Shield winning team. The Oatley Shield was the fore-runner of the Jersey Flegg competition.
