Harold Boyle, like many of his contemporaries played rugby union with the Ashfield Club in the Sydney Second Grade competition. He came across to play rugby league with Wests in 1908, with several other Ashfield players.
He trialled with the First Grade team at the start of the season but did not receive a call up to the top team until round four when Wests played against Newcastle at the RAS Showground. However, there was some confusion about his appearance in that match as his name was mis-reported.
