The Cumberland Argus in June 1906 reported on a Western Suburbs junior rugby union trial between a first and second XV.
It noted that, “James, the little Ashfield (Buccaneers) scrum half, was a perfect marvel. There is not many his size that can rank with him.”
James and Reg Baldock were the halves combination for Ashfield and both were called up by Wests in 1910 when a number of junior players filled the ranks.
Note: It could be that there were two players by the name of James that played between 1906 and 1912. This needs careful evaluation.
