Greg McTeigue grew up in the Sydney suburb of Birrong. He was educated at St Benedict’s College at Auburn where he played junior rugby league. He was subsequently selected in Wests Presidents Cup representative team before being graded in 1974.

Greg had one season at Goulburn before moving to Brisbane and joining Brisbane Norths. He finished his playing career at Nambour and has remained in Queensland in the Sunshine Coast area.
