Gordon

Gordon Hastie’s father, James, emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1879. He was an engineer who had travelled extensively and had visited every continent.

In Australia, James Hastie was the Senior Factory Inspector for the Department of Labour and Industry.  He was a life member of the Engineers’ Surveyors’ Association. He was also an active member of the United Australia Party (Ashfield Committee) and an active worker for charities in the Western Suburbs. Gordon followed in his father’s footsteps and became a successful businessman.

Gordon was awarded the Order of the British Empire Medal in 1971 for his work with Ex-Servicemen and Women.
