Geoff

Wests Archive would like to thank Geoff Foster for generously contributing his time and information in the preparation of this profile.

Geoff Foster was born in the NSW Riverina town of Griffith. In an interview by Daniel Pain in 2016, Geoff was asked what his childhood was like. His response was one that would relate to many country kids. He said, “We were poor, I rode a push bike everywhere. We were lucky to have a pair of thongs the bindies didn’t go through. The walk to school was five kilometres each way.”

He learned to play rugby league at primary school but he was playing against kids three years older than him due to his weight. At ten years of age he was playing for North Griffith. The team only had nine players and copped a sound beating each week.
