Ted Gormley’s brother was Raymond John Gormley who also debuted for Wests First Grade in 1908. Their father, Bernard Gormley of Lidcombe, was a well-known businessman and Rookwood Council alderman. He built and operated the first hotel in Lidcombe, the Railway Hotel.
Ted Gormley only played the one First Grade game for Wests, and that was the very first game played in 1908. Ted was a First Grade rugby union player in 1907 and was just on thirty-two years of age and in the twilight of his career when he made his rugby league debut with Wests.
