Doug Lucas grew up in the western Sydney suburb of Ashbury. He attended Ashbury primary school where he played rugby league. He played his early junior rugby league with the Burwood and Croydon Park clubs
Doug was a no nonsense type of player that didn’t take a backward step. He stood out on the playing field with his short blonde hair. Those that played with him enjoyed having him as a team mate. However, opposition players always knew they would be up for a tough contest.
