Charles Elliott migrated to Australia in 1883 with his parents and younger brother, William Ernest Elliott Wests #7. William also made his First Grade debut with Wests in 1908. Charlie’s baptism in October 1879 was recorded under the name of Charles Chandler. Chandler was his mother’s maiden name with his parents marrying in 1881. He has always been known since the time he was an infant, as Charles Elliott.
The Elliott brothers lived at Ashfield where they learned their football. In the early days this was with the Ashfield Buccaneers Rugby Union Club.
They moved on to the Ashfield Borough team (effectively a 3rd grade side). In 1907, they played with the Ashfield Rugby Union team that played in the Sydney Second Grade competition.
In 1908 Rugby League was established and the Elliotts were involved with the formation of the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club from the start. At the inaugural meeting Charlie Elliott was elected as a joint Club Secretary, and Bill Elliott was elected to the General Committee.
