Bert

Bert Alderson was the younger brother of Horace William Alderson, Wests #72. The Alderson family in 1910, lived at Nagle St, Liverpool NSW on the southern edge of the township. There is a street named Alderson Ave in Liverpool close to where they lived which still exists.

Bert was educated at the Cleveland St Superior Public School, located in the inner Sydney suburb of Surry Hills. There were several Superior Public Schools around the turn of the century. These had a distinct focus on preparing students for university education as well as providing graduates for business, the public service or the military.

Apart from academic excellence, these schools also successfully participated in a range of sporting endeavours. While Bert Alderson was at the Cleveland St Superior School he played rugby union and was a member of the School’s First Grade team that won the Public Schools championship in 1908.
