Johnno

John Stuntz joined the NSW Fire Brigade in 1912 and served at Headquarters and Kogarah Fire stations. He attained the rank of First Class Fireman prior to enlisting with the 1st AIF in March 1916.

He was a Private in the 14th Reinforcements, raised for the 17th Battalion. Just after the First Battle of Bullecourt, John was involved in the attack on German forces at the Hindenburg Line. John was killed by machine-gun fire on 3 May 1917, being the first day of the Second Battle of Bullecourt.

There is no known grave for John Stuntz but he is commemorated at the Commonwealth Memorial in Villers Bretonneux. John Stuntz received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
