Perc

Perc Williamson was a Wests player from 1955, who appeared on team lists as P. Williamson, W. Williamson, and in one instance in a newspaper of the time, he appeared as “Bill” Williamson.

It was necessary to clearly identify this player so that his story could be told. Contributions were made by Wests Archives, Neil Pollock and posts on the Maher Cup Face Book site. Many contributors had either played with Perc or watched him play and were able to provide vital information.

Percival Joseph “Perc” Williamson was born in 1933 at Terranora in the Tweed district just south of the Queensland border. His father Reg Williamson was a returned Soldier and an Oyster Farmer who died in 1947 at a relatively young age.

Perc lived with his widowed mother in Coolangatta, just over the border in Queensland after his father’s death but all his football was played in NSW.
