Bill

William “Bill” “Wacker” Lucas was from a mining family. He was born at Granville, NSW in 1891, but his father William Lucas travelled extensively in pursuit of his occupation.

Bill Lucas was thirteen years old when his father died at Kanowna, Western Australia in 1904. The town of Kanowna, was east of Kalgoorlie and had a population of 12,000 people but became a ghost town by the mid 20th century. The Lucas family returned to the inner suburbs of Sydney where Bill Lucas learned to play his football.
